The Value of Dad’s Old Jeep

After graduating, dad sat me down and said, “You’ve graduated with honours! Here’s a Jeep I bought many years ago. It is pretty old now, and before I give it to you, I would like you to take it to the used car lot downtown. Tell them I want to sell it, and see how much they offer you for it”.

Off I went to the used car lot, then returned to dad and told him they offered me $1,000 because they said it “looks pretty worn out”.

Dad said, “Ok then, take it to the pawn shop and see how much they’ll give you for it”.

So I went to the pawn shop, found out how much they’ll give me and came back to tell dad. “The pawn shop offered only $100 because it is an old Jeep”, I said. Then dad asked me to go to a Jeep club and show them the Jeep.

Once again, I took the vehicle this time heading to the Jeep Club. I returned a short time later and told dad that some people in the club offered me $100,000 for it because “it’s an iconic Jeep and sought by many collectors”.

Now dad said something I will never forget, “The right place values you the right way,” he continued, “If you are not valued, don’t get angry, it only means you are in the wrong place. Those who know your value are those who appreciate you. So my dear daughter, never stay in a place where no one sees your value.”
